Shall we get started with today’s lesson? Let’s begin with a passage reading Luke chapter 2 verses 1 through 14. “2 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.
It's a bit longer today I know, but I want to talk about this specific passage today because we are entering a very special time of year, the time of year when people are kinder, hearts are lighter, and we get to celebrate a birthday, one single birthday, worldwide. The birth of our savior Jesus Christ.
Not only does this passage cover that which is most important to us as a people, as the world as a whole, but what is said at the end of this passage is what I would like to cover and go over today. Verse 14 says, and we all know it by heart, it’s very popular this time of year, Peace on earth, goodwill toward men.
Now we the older generation all know and understand that it means that there is to be peace on earth because Jesus is the Prince of Peace, Isaiah chapter 9 verse 6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” And goodwill to humankind or mankind means all people of all nations.
As we discussed before though, the Bible, our Holy Document, the Holy history of mankind is under attack from modern-day progressives, feminists, left-wing thinking people who think that we should rewrite the Bible or just discard it completely, not too long ago we had a senator, Emmanuel Clever, a left-wing nutjob in his own right, proudly and loudly proclaimed Amen and A-Woman on tv while swearing-in, taking his oath, and saying a prayer.
This is what we are up against people because Amen isn’t a gender bias ending to prayer it is Hebrew for “So Be It” has no gentrification whatsoever. Every part of the Bible is under attack brothers and sisters and has been since its inception into our world and our culture, but it seems like it is even more so today, because of the speed that information travels.
Coming in second to “Amen” is Luke 14 “goodwill toward men” which leaves a lot of women, especially those who are predominant in social media and think of themselves as trendsetters, “why just men?” now you’d be right in thinking they’re idiots, but we are supposed to love our fellow “man” so we’ll just say they don’t have all the information needed to be considered intelligent. Ignorance through misinformation.
But there is hope because that passage actually comes from the King James Version of the Bible which didn’t come into the picture until much later and that version has been proven to have many translated mistakes in it.
In the NIV version of the bible, brothers, and sisters it says, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Which has been stated as the correct translation of this passage.
The ESV version of the bible says, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” which is also very close to what has been proven as the correct translation.
Even the CEB version of the bible says ““Glory to God in heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors.”
The proof exists, the evidence is right here in our Bibles that it isn’t being biased, isn’t favoring one gender over another, and that the Bible actually regards both sexes of our species as important. God doesn’t choose sides; Jesus doesn’t choose sides even the Holy Spirit doesn’t choose sides. Mankind through misinformation, deceit, and a little help from Satan himself spreads these lies because even today Satan is hard at work trying to destroy that which God loves. US.
I know I’m veering off a bit here but that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? Satan is trying to gain a foothold in our world, by using things like this passage to plant the seeds of separation between God’s people so that He can take control of us, and rule us, and allow the things HE wants, to come to pass. By dividing Mankind against itself, we become weak, vulnerable and open to the lies he spreads. We brothers and sisters cannot allow this, we must take up the armor God provides, take up the two-edged sword God provides, and fight against this Angel of Chaos and Evil.
While other texts, documents, and even written teachings of the time that the Bible was written, discredits or even omits women and their words because in that time women were property, property to be bartered for marriage, property to be sold and traded, the Bible gives credit to all those women who were influential, had a purpose, meaning, and driven to make a difference.
When Mary Magdalene discovers Jesus was no longer in the tomb, Ruth and proving herself to be a woman of integrity even after the passing of her husband. Esther was chosen by Xerxes and later became queen of a Jewish nation. No other historical documents give such attention to women like the bible.
We have to remember, the Bible is old, it’s the most complete history book of all mankind, of all the world, there are different versions, with different ways of putting out the information we need to live our lives according to scripture, but none of it is irrelevant, and none of it contradicts itself, we just have to take a moment and see the bigger picture, understand the translation we are reading and take it into the context of which that version was written.
Since the move from Maryland to Ohio, I’ve been learning more than I care to admit about God’s word, and how we must be investigators, we have to look deeper into scripture and see the bigger picture in all its context and forms.
Just because a passage says “peace on earth, goodwill toward men” doesn’t mean it is specifically talking about men. But mankind in general. The Bible is just as relevant today as it always has been, we the stewards of faith, we the people of God just need to come to an understanding of where our favorite translations come from and the meaning and context of which our Bible stands.
Let’s close this morning in prayer, “Father God, Thank you for your son Jesus, thank you for sending HIM to us for the sole purpose of absolving us of our sins and giving us a second chance with you O Lord, Thank you for bringing forth the best in us with the spirit of this Christmas season, and warming our hearts while the world cools and goes into a hibernation state. Thank you for friends and family even though we may not always agree with each other, our friends, our families are all blessings poured out by YOU Lord, and we are grateful. Watch over those who need healing, we ask that you lead those who do not yet know you, come and drink from your everlasting waters, that their eyes be open to the wonders that you have to offer and be open to receive. Thank you Father for the healing blessings you have shown us, granted us, and for our financial burdens being lifted and made easier through YOUR caring hands. We know that all things are possible through a strong and meaningful relationship with you, and we pray this over our nation and all the nations of the world, that they come to know you, understand your word, your law, and abide just as we do. And all my Rebel Family said AMEN.”
