Let us Pray: “Father, we thank you for each and every single blessing you have poured out on us, this Holiest of seasons, we thank you for the mercy you have shown, the healing that has taken place, and all the gifts of Heaven. We thank you for your Son and our brother Jesus, that HE survived Herod’s attacks, and lived a perfect, unsoiled life. We thank you for HIS sacrifice, and Praise YOU Lord for all time, in your Holy name we pray, Amen”

Matthew chapter 1 verses 18 through 25 “Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:”

Welcome one and all to this the most glorious Sunday of the season this year, the Sunday before Christmas. By now all our shopping is done, we just have those little odds and ends, those little trinkets, that little something to really make someone’s Christmas. We’ve been through the crowds and made sacrifices ourselves whether it was foregoing a meal or staying up late, getting up early and sacrificing our sleep so we were able to do that little extra shopping for someone special.

Sacrificing our time and our energy for someone else because they mean so much to us, and we get into this habit, this false narrative, that because we are lost for words to express something to someone and how they make us feel, we have to resort to purchasing a gift or two.

I chuckle at this because there is an episode of the Big Bang Theory, has anyone heard of it, or watched an episode or two? There’s this episode where Penny meets Leonard Nimoy, and she feels bad because all she was able to get Sheldon as a gift that year was Leonard Nimoy’s napkin, she’s all depressed because to her it’s just a napkin, but when Sheldon opens the gift and his excitement turns to confusion, like oh it’s a napkin, but then Penny explains that Nimoy used it to wipe his mouth, Sheldon is overwhelmed and overcome with so much excitement he gives Penny like 5 expensive gift baskets.

What a miracle it is when something so simple as a napkin can be viewed as more precious than gold itself. When a simple gesture of love can bring out the best in someone, and that’s what God has done for each and every one of us, living today. GOD our FATHER sent HIS SON to us as man, as flesh and bone, as a person, to teach, to worship, to show us how to praise, and pastor to us, with the ultimate goal being that HE and HE alone would bear our sins, EVERY ONE OF OUR SINS, past, present, and future kind, and be punished, beaten, ripped open, and suffered through it all, so we could spend eternity in Heaven with HIM and the All-Father.

HE was God’s gift to us, a simple kindness, a simple gesture of love and humbleness, to be born from a virgin, laid in a manger, with swaddling clothes, someone so simple, so weak, but had command over all the armies of heaven, holding authority over the archangels, this one baby, King for eternity.

Brothers and sisters, I get chills, goosebumps, every time I get to talk about Jesus, but especially around Christmas, Easter, even New years and Thanksgiving, Jesus has opened my heart, HE has opened my eyes, and HE has blessed my family and I more times than there are stars in the sky. Even now HE continues to bless us and keep us safe, and we can never thank HIM enough.

Luke chapter 1 verses 46 through 55 says “And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.”

Philippians Chapter 4 verse 19 says “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Deuteronomy chapter 28 verses 1 through 68 says “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.”

Matthew Chapter 6 verses 30 through 33 says “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore, do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

In all we do brothers and sisters we need to first seek the kingdom of God the Father, HE is the reason why we are all here today, and HE is the reason why we celebrate the most Holy and Perfect light of the season at the darkest time of the year, the winter solstice, the December equinox, Jesus was sent to be a light, a beacon of hope, to teach us, guide us and find our path, find our way back to the Father, He Sacrificed HIMSELF for all the people of the world, for all time.

There’s a song that I like to listen too, it’s not a Christian song, and I only like the intro, but I think it speaks heavily on the subject today so I’d like to end with it today.

It’s called I’m Coming Home, and the intro goes like this.

I’m coming home

I'm coming home

Tell the world I'm coming home

Let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday

I know my kingdom awaits and they've forgiven my mistakes

I'm coming home, I'm coming home

Tell the world that I'm coming.

When I hear that, I just start to tear up, because it’s true, THE KINGDOM awaits all of us and the only thing we have to do to get there, is accept Jesus Christ into our hearts and believe in him, believe in HIS teachings, and it’s such a powerful message, because no matter what we do, no matter what we say, as long as we ask for forgiveness, true forgiveness, and believe that Jesus died for us, all our mistakes are forgiven, and we will sit at the Lord’s Table, in the Lord’s House, and dine with HIM. It’s so powerful and moving, and amazing, and It’s the most glorious gift we could ever receive.

Go in Christian love and Christian faith, tell everyone you can about the coming birth and celebration of our Lord Jesus, explain to all who are willing to hear, that He came not to destroy the old testament, but to fulfill it.

Amen.
